8-29-2008-Brenda's favorites!!!

Brenda and I traded "favorites folders" and I wanted to share some of hers on my blog. Brenda and John have become good friends over two years and we cherish that relationship....Thanks Brenda...
The flower is a Glacier Lily....

Rosie put her cubs up a tree and took a nap on a log beneath the tree. This is before she lost one of them to a male bear.

Brenda & John got to see this wolf at close range. He was waiting his turn to the bison remains.

8-26-2008-Chris McCoy

Mid July we got a new manager. This is Chris with his dog Aubrey. Chris is one of the reasons that we had a good summer and he was kind enough to share the tulip pictures with me that he took while in Holland. Loyal and I wish Chris a great first winter in Yellowstone!!!!

8-26-2008-Four Bull Moose

This was an absolute treat....something that isn't seen very often and that is four bull moose together. The first three pictures were provided by my friend Brenda Smink as she was able to get closer than I was. The last one provided by Chris McCoy, our manager. The moose were on Petrified Tree Road as you start the trail to Lost Lake. What an end to a great summer.

8-25-2008--Christmas in Yellowstone

Christmas is celebrated in Yellowstone each year on August 25th....there are several stories but the one we like is on this date there was enough snow at Old Faithful to strand the vistors for a couple of days....they had food, decorations and a gift store so they had an old fashion Christmas at the lodge.

When I get home to my DSL connection, I will upload pictures of our employees this year. Our Mammoth Christmas was a huge success because of our new manager Chris McCoy. He was full of spirit and that spilled over to the rest of us.
Loyal and I with Alex and Vit, two young men from Ukraine who worked part time for us. They were such a delight and it was hard to tell them good bye today (Friday)

Loyal and I in front of the Christmas Tree......

We ate our turkey dinner out on the front lawn. God provided us with a perfect night as we didn't eat until 8:00 p.m.

Front porch of employees entrance.....

Ready for a feast, fellowship and fun....

8-24-2008-Moose

You can see his reflection as he had just shook his head in the water.....
Moose frequent "Floating Island Lake" and I finally got good pictures of this younger one. He still has velvet on his antlers. Love the "moose drool"....

8-23-2008 Saturday drive

We hiked a short distance to this "Lost Lake". A beautiful lake that you miss if you don't get off the main road....

A very young coyote posing for us....so cute

8-21-2008-Grizzly meal

Two bison killed each other during the rut and this is where one died....looks like a grease spot...this grizzly was having a feast. The two little black spots at one o'clock are two cubs....after eating the grizz wondered out in the tall green grass.....

This is one magnificent animal.....he just about has all the velvet rubbed off his rack and you can see it hanging down....he is slowly making his way into Mammoth where the ladies are....

8-12-2008-two moose

The quality of this picture is very low as it was almost dark when we spotted these two moose in Floating Island Lake. My goal is to see them in good light.....what a thrill this was.....

8-12-2008--baby oh baby

This late bloomer is going to have a tough time making it through the winter....it isn't very old and looks to be about two months younger than than the others calves.....all others have lost their spots....
No matter which of God's creatures we all love our mother's kisses.....

8-12-2008

Our picture for the pictorial directory that I and a co-worker have put together.....we again are adding so many friends to our email and Christmas card list....

8-6-2008-The Rut is on....

This is one of my better zoomed in pictures of a bison.....
The ladies don't have a chance as she can't make a move without him at her side....it is so interesting to watch the mating process of these huge beasts....

8-3-2008-friends

John & Brenda Smink were co-workers last years and neighbors this year....John works for YPSS (all the service stations in the park) and Brenda is a nurse at the Mammoth Clinic....their son John (good-looking) was here for a visit this week and we enjoyed a cookout on Sunday....We have kept in contact with John and Brenda this last winter and treasure their friendship.....

8-2-2008-Moose

They are big but beautiful!!!

8-2-2008-LeHardy Fire

You can google the LeHardy Fires and read about it....the fire started from a down electric pole due to high winds....this fire wasn't started by nature, so they are trying to put it out....it has now burned 8900 acres according to what we heard today....
