7-26-2008

The weather has gotten hot in Yellowstone .....today in Gardiner it was 97 degrees....We made our first trip to Livingston in two months. Livingston is 51 miles north of us. We needed to have the oil changed in the truck and there is a Ford dealer there...went to Albertsons and Pamida....Yeah!!! I really wonder if my Walmart at home is suffering!!!!

We will take a short ride tomorrow and hopefully will have some pictures to add to the blog....

7-17-2008 Lucas & his fish

Lucas caught this six pound bass....of course, I know that he had to call big brother Lyndall and rub it in because years ago he caught a five pounder which he had mounted....brotherly love!!!! Good job Luke.....

7-19-2008-Pelican

I wanted a picture of an eagle but settled for this pelican....he is pretty too.....it was so funny, we had watched an eagle catch a fish and a pelican stole it from him.....

7-20-2008

This is not in the park, but north of Gardiner on a road called Jardine which leads to an old mining town.....we believe this is someones little fishing spot as we have seen a car parked their before....another beautiful drive...

7-19-2008

I tried to capture Antelope Valley with my panaramic setting, but it just isn't possible....you can get a little ida of the vastness of the valley and the beauty.....this valley attracts all the wolf watchers with their spotting scopes....

7-20-2008-Blacktail Plateau

Words can't describe the beauty of these hills as we took one last drive with Craig & Rozanna on a six mile off the main road drive called Blacktail Plateau.....

7-19-2008-friends

Rozanna & Craig Selley, friends from home (Topeka) were with us three days and we had a great time....we drove 254 miles and had such a good time....This is the four of us standing at the top of Antelope Valley which was covered with yellow flowers.....Craig & Rozanna left Monday morning headed for the Teton's and Colorado before making their way back home.....

7-19-2008-Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

7-12-2008-bull elk

Seeing him was a great finish to our day.....Loyal thinks he is a 14 point but we could never get a front shot......his antlers are still covered in velvet which he will soon start losing before rut starts the middle of August......

7-12-2008 The hills are alive!!

The lake islands are filled with flowers....

The hillsides look like they have bouquets of flowers on them.....the winter snow was wonderful as we have never seen it like this....

Overlooking Antelope valley.....

7-12-2008-animals of Hayden Valley

Our drive Saturday took us to Hayden Valley.....elk were taking a swim in the lake
My neighbor said this was a blue herron....beats me, but he was pretty

Love the reflection of the bison....

7-11-2008-Bear & his kill

THIS IS NATURE.....I had been told this bear had killed an ailing bull elk and where it was.....Friday morning we took a ride to Phantom Lake where this is what we saw....Phantom Lake for the first time we can remember has water in it....it usually looks like a little meadow but because of the snow I have mentioned it has water in it....this is a cinnamon bear (black) and it was apparent that he was resting after a feast....
We drove about ten more miles and turned around and when we got back he had apparently eaten again and was lying flat on his back sleeping.....one of our co-workers was told by a visitor they were on a bus tour and actually saw the elk attacked by the bear as it was bent over getting a drink of water in the lake.....the pictures aren't great as it was so bright and shadows from the trees.....

7-6-2008-Lamar Valley & Rosie

Lamar Valley never disappoints us.....we very seldom never see wildlife and the landscape is breathtaking
The ravens in Yellowstone are huge and have been know to steal food at picnics.....you can tell this is a crust of bread....

Rosie and her surviving cub were spotted around Tower.....the crowd was huge and it prevented me from getting a good picture of Rosie....did get this one of the cinnamon cub crossing the road.....Rosie isn't limping, but you could see the scars on her back when she was attacked and her other cub killed....

7-5-2008-baby elk

This baby laid for the longest time.....he barely moved as mom probably told it not to.....he would peek ever so often and then cry for mom.....they won't move until she tells them they can....
These twins were napping while mom hovered over them......soon they will lose their spots......

7-5-2008--Moose

This moose was standing in Floating Island Lake....look at his reflection.....an awesome animal.....

This moose crossed the road in front of us and Ken had to apply the brakes or we would have hit him....

7-5-08

Pammie Jo, this one is for you......I really excelled with my pictures on this trip to the Teton's.......tooting my own horn, right??

This is the view out the window in the back of the church.....so peaceful and you realize how great our God is.....

This is the outside of the church and it is fully operational with Sunday Services, funerals and wedding.....

7-5-2008 Ox Bow Bend

Ox Bow Bend in The Teton's is the most photographed and artist drawn place in this part of the country.....when the atmosphere is right and you can see the reflection of the mountains in the water it is gorgeous.....

7-5-2008

Another view from Signal Mountain

7-5-2008

Beautiful flowers on Signal Mountain...Yellowstone and The Teton's had record snow amounts which makes for very green and beautiful flowers.....We are told that they have not seen it this green for many years.....the bear sign is posted on all garbage cans....just a reminder...

This was a beautiful picture on top of Signal Mountain in The Teton's....

Panaramic view of The Teton's...

7-2-2008

We frequently take a morning ride to Tower (20 miles) before going to work when we are on the late shift....that is where we saw the black bear.....the elk was eating in the front yard of the store and the baby and her mom were behind the store.....remember that Mammoth Hot Springs was at one time an army base and therefore looks like a village and the elk love the green grass.....this is a cute picture of twins also going up the hill behind the store.....
